Gundagai is a small town in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. The town is situated on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River and is surrounded by beautiful rolling hills and countryside. Here are some interesting facts about the region of Gundagai:

1. Gundagai is home to the iconic Dog on the Tuckerbox statue, which is a tribute to the drovers who worked with their dogs to move livestock to markets.

2. The town of Gundagai was first settled in the 1830s and was a major stopping point for travellers and drovers moving through the region.

3. Gundagai is one of the few places in Australia where you can see a wild koala population. The koalas can often be spotted in the trees along Sheridan's Lane.

4. The Gundagai Rail Bridge, which was built in 1903, is one of the longest timber truss bridges in Australia. It is still in use today and is a popular spot for tourists to take photos.

5. The region is home to some of the best wineries in Australia, including Borambola Wines and Murrumbateman Winery.

6. The Gundagai Meat Processors plant is the largest employer in the region, processing up to 2,600 lambs and sheep each day.

7. In the 1850s, Gundagai was hit by a series of floods which devastated the town and claimed the lives of over 80 people. Today, the town has a flood museum which commemorates the disaster.

8. The Gundagai Show is held annually and is one of the oldest agricultural shows in Australia. The show features livestock exhibits, rides and attractions, and is a favourite with locals and tourists alike.

9. The region is also known for its excellent fishing, with the Murrumbidgee River offering some of the best trout fishing in Australia.

10. Gundagai is home to the spectacular Tumut 3 Hydroelectric Power Station, which was built in the 1950s. The station generates enough electricity to power over 200,000 homes and is a testament to Australia's engineering prowess.
